Supervision and Key-Person Approach

Every child at Horns Drove Community Childcare is assigned a dedicated key-person who will closely support their development throughout their time with us. This trusted adult will observe your child’s learning journey, build a strong relationship, and maintain developmental records that are shared with you.

We also hold regular key-person meetings with parents and carers during the year to discuss progress, celebrate milestones, and agree on future focus activities tailored to your child’s needs and interests.

Supporting Children with Additional Needs

At our setting, we are committed to providing inclusive, tailored support for children who may require additional help.

Our current provision includes:

Accessible Environment

A disabled ramp ensures physical access for all children.

Dedicated Staff

A qualified SENCO (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) and BECO (Behaviour Co-ordinator) oversee individual support plans and behaviour strategies.

Language Development

Every child starting pre-school receives a ‘Language Box’ checklist, completed by their key person and reviewed termly.
Children who benefit from additional support are invited to our popular ‘Language Box’ groups, which foster confidence and communication.

Sensory and Emotional Support
A separate quiet room is available, equipped with sensory toys and calming resources.

Assessment and Collaboration
We conduct regular assessments to identify and respond to each child’s needs.
Parents are invited to Focus Child meetings to share insights and help shape their child’s learning journey.

Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
IEPs are co-developed by staff and parents and reviewed regularly to ensure progress and relevance.

Communication Aids
We use visual supports such as NOW/NEXT boards, choosing boards, and visual timetables.
Makaton is embedded in our daily practice, including a “Sign of the Week” to encourage shared learning.

Inclusive Activities
All activities are designed to be accessible and adaptable, ensuring every child can participate meaningfully.

External Partnerships
We work closely with outside agencies to provide expert guidance and support for families and staff.

If you feel your child may benefit from additional support, or if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak with a member of our team.
